2014 Resolutions Checkpoint: January

Greetings, February!  It's time to check in on my new year's resolutions.  I took a different route on my 2014 resolutions, keeping it to just three main areas of focus rather than the bajillion goals I usually set.  Also, rather than laying out all of the steps to complete this year in each of these areas, I'm going with a new approach (learned in the self-guided course Cake for Breakfast) of listing a small attainable task, and then naming the next task once the first is completed.

Here's what I've done in January to work towards my three goals:

Progress in January

1. Improve health, focus on digestion

  • Took probiotics every day (prior to Bangkok vacation)
  • Took vitamin C every day (prior to Bangkok vacation)
  • Read Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food
  • Stopped using a microwave
  • Purchased digestive enzymes and glutamine powders

2. Create health site and post regularly

  • Purchased hosting of domain for 2 years via bluehost, using WordPress
  • Wrote the "about" section of the site (with JJ)
  • Have four posts in draft form
  • Placed a hold on a how-to WordPress book at my digital library

3. Do not work another 9-5 job

  • Began reading An Introduction to Web Design
  • 37% done with Web Fundamentals (on Code Academy)
Note: I am also open to seasonal jobs in the future, rather than a completely online-based, non 9-5 source of income.

Background Goals

And here's my progress on those bits and pieces that would be great to accomplish this year as well:
  • Read 32 books this year (2 in Spanish)
    • I've read 5/32 books -- (One in Spanish)
  • Gain strength & muscle, enough that there's a notable difference in a before and after picture
    • Took before pictures
    • Began core and push-up tracks on Lift, a habit-forming app/site that I recommend
    • Did yoga a few times and danced one night at home for exercise (and fun!)
  • Add pull-down tabs to both of my Blogger blogs
  • Walk the Camino de Santiago
  • Visit Hannah and Herm in London
  • Make a Korea bucket list and post it (and do it!)
    • Began a draft post
  • Unplug more often
  • Resume French study
    • Did a little bit of Duolingo while in Bangkok.

February Focus

Some action items to complete in February, so that I stay on track:

1. Digestive health

  • Take probiotics every day
  • Take glutamine every day
  • Buy more vegetables when I grocery shop, even if I don't know what it is
  • Add 5 blogs to my "Health" folder in Feedly (reader)

2. Health site

  • Publish health history post
  • Publish four additional posts

3. Non 9-5 work

  • Finish reading An Introduction to Web Design
  • Complete Web Fundamentals course on Code Academy
  • Explore reddit's Work Online page

Background goals

  • Continue core/push-ups every day (using Lift to track progress)
  • Do yoga at least once a week
  • Post Korea bucket list on blog
