Thankful Thursday: 7/11/13

[Thankful Thursday is a weekly segment that began 1/10/13 - read why here.  I invite you to join me in practicing gratitude!]

Today I flew from Madison to Cleveland, and Cleveland to Montreal, QC.  I really haven't flown that much, just two international roundtrips to/from Spain and a handful (or two) of Ryanair flights within Europe.  As I was taking off from the Madison airport, I could not take my eyes away from the window.  What a view!  When will I ever be this high again and see Madison from a whole new perspective?

Before long, I could see a large body of water ahead of us: Lake Michigan!  I got to see Lake Michigan from above, as we flew over the lake and headed to Cleveland.  I think flights and airplanes are really amazing -- the fact that you're so far off of the surface of the earth, hanging out with the clouds.  I really savored every minute of these flights.  Crossing over Lake Ontario and seeing all of the islands while nearing Montreal was incredible, too.  Although the purpose of flights is to transport you from one city to another, I think the chance to be at such heights and speeds, and to see a birds eye an airplane's view of a chunk of the Earth is an amazing, under-appreciated bonus.

Apart from all my flight/height appreciation, I'm so thankful that I could take two weeks off of work to hang out with one of my best friends, Hannah, in her home town this summer. AND, even better, during my second week with her Max is joining us from Germany, and Herm from London.  Reunited with all three after leaving Madrid nearly a year ago!  I'm also thankful that I've been saving in a "travel" fund all year, which allowed me to buy this flight and have spending money while I'm away.
